Vocabulary

• NAO / the robot: the physical NAO robot we use in this research
• System: the combined hardware (robot) and software used for the functionality
• PwD: The person with dementia that is using the system
• Participant: Person participating in a study
• Guardian: The family member that oversees the encyclopedia
• Encyclopedia: the knowledgebase with the entire family information
• Episodic memory: short term memory specifically used in a single conversation
• Dementia progression: how far along the dementia of a PwD has progressed
• Phase 1, Setup phase: first phase in which the encyclopedia is populated with information
• Sub-phase 1a: formal survey phase in which the guardian populates the encyclopedia
• Sub-phase 1b: verbal informal survey phase in which the subject converses with the robot to populate the encyclopedia
• Phase 2, Accustoming phase: second phase in which the subject gets used to the robot
• Phase 3, Operational phase: third phase in which the subject uses the robot
• Phase 4, Extension phase: fourth optional phase for further research
