She feels the need to prepare these visits and as usual show her love and care for these visitors, but recently it has become more and more overwhelming. (There is no realistic option where she goes to visit them instead.)

Simple facts even would settle him but he feels his mind is locked up. Perhaps some things he does not even realise he's forgotten. He wants help, and a link back to his past. He wants some meaning back in his life, to get back a sense of continuity and importance of what he's done.
