Version 22.1 by William OGrady on 2024/03/25 14:30
In this section we will discuss in which environment NAO will be situated. Additionally, we will summarise NAO's concrete functionalities based on phase 1 to phase 3.
Environment(s)
Main subject
- People medically diagnosed with early-stage dementia (henceforth, PwDs).
How does the design solution help to solve the problems of a PwD with early-stage dementia?
- Through human interactions, NAO helps the PwD.
- NAO achieves a natural flow of conversation between itself and the PwD.
- The PwD is accustomed to the presence of NAO and is comfortable to ask questions and have a conversation.
- NAO's primary goal is to be able to answer questions about the PwD's relatives.
- In the extension phase, additional features implemented for more types of conversation and to become more of an assistant.
In what environment can NAO be implemented?
- NAO will be stationed in a room where the PwDs spend most of their day.
- NAO also exists in the 'online' world, in the sense that the guardian can access and update the NAO's encyclopedia.
- In the extension phase, an additional feature could be that the PwD can have conversations with NAO in multiple rooms by connecting to a Google Home and speaker system.
Activities
Phase 1
- The guardian of the PwD fills out a form with questions about the their relatives.
- NAO will have its first conversations with the guardian to populate the encyclopedia.
- The guardian will place NAO will be placed in the room where the PwD spends most of their time, with consent of the PwD.
Phase 2
- The PwD learns how to activate NAO.
- The PwD accustoms to NAO's presence.
- The PwD asks questions to NAO, similar to questions asked in the set-up form. These questions have been thought of by the project group.
Phase 3
- The PwD activates NAO.
- The PwD has a natural flow of conversation with NAO and is able to ask questions.
- The guardian updates NAO's encyclopedia through a web-interface.
