Positive consequences

Which positive effects are expected from the AI-functions

- to the performance of the actors who work with the AI (e.g., accuracy, speed, ...)?

- to the state of them (e.g., stress, understanding, trust, ...)?

Performance:

Speed: The robot's ability to follow the patient can save the nurse and family members time and effort in keeping an eye on the patient, as they can trust the robot to keep up with the patient's movements.

Engagement: The playing game function can help the person with dementia to engage in a fun and stimulating activity, which can be beneficial for their cognitive and emotional well-being.

State

Stress: The robot's ability to assist with tasks such as following the patient and going for a walk can help reduce stress levels for the nurse and family members, as they may no longer need to constantly keep an eye on the patient.

Trust: The robot's consistent behavior and reliability can help build trust between the person with dementia and their caregivers, as they may come to rely on the robot as a familiar and predictable presence in their lives.

Negative consequences

Do you foresee potential negative effects of the AI-functions:

- on the performance, state and/or values of the actors?

- on more general ethical or societal aspects?

What are they?

Performance

It can be difficult for Truus to adapt to behavior of the robot, leading to confusion and frustration.

The use of the robot may lead to the nurse and family members relying too heavily on it to perform tasks, potentially resulting in reduced physical activity and interaction with the person with dementia.

The robot can help with assistance or engagement of Truus but cannot provide the emotional support a person with dementia needs.

ethical or societal

Privacy and security concerns

The cost of the robot may make it inaccessible to some families, making healthcare less fair.

The AI functions provide the robot with a range of abilities that can benefit both the person with dementia and their caregivers, including: Assistance with mobility; Engaging in physical activity, Reduced stress levels.

The AI capabilities can improve the well-being of the patient with dementia by providing distraction and the feeling they can pet a dog. Also for the caregivers it can take work away or reduce stresslevels.
