Below, both the direct stakeholders - the stakeholders who might directly interact with the technology - and indirect stakeholders - other individuals who are otherwise affected by the use of the technology - for our scenario are introduced (Lecture 1). Next, the stakeholders' corresponding value stories and user stories are explained.
Direct stakeholders
- Person with dementia (PwD)
- Needs help with daily life
- Peter, moderate stage of Alzheimer
- Family/Relative of PwD (informal caregiver)
- Either living with the PwD or visiting often to help with day-to-day tasks
- Catherine, Peter's wife
- Health care professional (HCP) (formal caregiver)
- Providing health checks daily, regularly or semi-regularly
- Julia, Peter's nurse, coming in once every two days
Indirect stakeholders
- Person's friends, extended family, co-workers (non-caregivers)
- Meeting regularly and having interactions with PwD
- Dylan, Peter's and Catherine's son
Value stories
PWD:
- As a PwD I want someone to undergo meaningful discourse to feel connected to another person/robot/myself.
- As a PwD I want to retain my health and well-being as well as possible when I am by myself.
- As a PwD I want to retain my autonomy and self sufficiency as long as possible.
Family:
- As a family member of a PwD, I want assistance for the PwD so that I feel safe leaving them alone.
- As a family member of a PwD, I don't want to visit them only to scold them about nutrition for the PwD so that our relationship is not strained by that.
HCP:
- As a HCP I want assistance in the daily activities of the elderly so that I have more time to focus on the individual PwD.
User stories
PWD:
- As a PwD I want to be reminded about eating at typical mealtimes so that I will not forget to eat.
- Feature: Mealtime reminder.
- As a PwD I want to be questioned about the meals, to activate me and remind me to eat.
- Feature: Mealtime discourse.
- As a PwD I want to discuss my wellbeing occasionally so that I'm cognitively activated and reminded to think about my condition.
- Feature: Wellbeing discourse.
Family:
- As a close relative (e.g. spouse) I want the robot to remind the PwD about eating/drinking so that I don't have to.
- Feature: Mealtime reminders.
HCP:
- As a HCP I want the PwD to be reminded about mealtimes so that they are not malnutritioned or dehydrated.
- Feature: Mealtime reminder.
General:
- Take the weight of reminding away from the humans (pwd/relative)
- Make the PwD self-reflect
