Group 4: Ontologies
The figure below shows an ontology that represents our design and our system as a whole, as well as the overview of the interactions between the agent and the PwD. Explanations for the different classes are given at the bottom of the page.
The second image below represents a more detailed view of an ontology for each resident at the care center, therefore for all people. This is also a good representation for how the logging system could look, for logging each person's activity status and interests for the robot to remember.
Person: A human being. Persons usually have an age, a gender, and a name. Persons can like different things and have different hobbies, such as working out or knitting. Persons can also be affected by various conditions.
Dementia: A brain disease affecting people’s cognitive, affective, motoric, and social functioning. There are different causes for dementia with different symptoms. Alzheimer’s is the most commonly known form, but other forms include Korsakoff syndrome. There are different stages of dementia too: mild, moderate, and severe.
Mild Dementia: "Signs and symptoms of mild dementia include memory loss, confusion about the location of familiar places, taking longer than usual to accomplish normal daily tasks, trouble handling money and paying bills, poor judgment leading to bad decisions, loss of spontaneity and sense of initiative, mood and personality changes, and increased anxiety or aggression."
Diabetes: "Diabetes is a serious condition where your blood glucose level is too high. It can happen when your body doesn't produce enough insulin or the insulin it produces isn't effective. Or, when your body can't produce any insulin at all."
Anger Management Issues: A person with anger issues usually curses, criticizes, yells, screams, hits, punches walls, etc. on a regular basis. Anger issues can negatively affect many aspects of a person's life, including relational and professional. There are several indicators or symptoms of anger management issues that we will discuss in the rest of this lesson. While the emotion of anger itself is not an issues, excessive anger can be.
Korsakoff dementia:
Korsakoff syndrome (also known as Korsakoff's amnesic syndrome) is a memory disorder that results from vitamin B1 deficiency and is associated with alcoholism. Korsakoff's syndrome damages nerve cells and supporting cells in the brain and spinal cord, as well as the part of the brain involved with memory. Symptoms include:
