Here we list the main objectives of PaintingPal as follows:

Support the PwD in a meaningful craft: 
This is the main objective of our PaintingPal application. We intend to assist the patient with their hobby of painting.

Help with expression/maintaining of identity: 
The patients all had a certain identity in their past lives and it’s important for them to have some semblance of it during their dementia as well. Loss of identity will cause them to lose their self-worth and even become depressed which can cause their condition to deteriorate even more as well. By personalizing the paintings that the patients draw and tailoring them to their needs and eventful scenarios of their past lives we aim to help them maintain their sense of identity.  

Help PwD maintain autonomy for as long as possible: 
As PwDs have increased difficulty with performing tasks, it often happens that their autonomy becomes more reduced than necessary. With the use of a robot supporting them in their hobbies, they can maintain their normal habits for a longer time. 

Provide connectedness with family: 
Part of SDT is the importance of relatedness. PwDs often feel isolated from their normal world and life through the closed environment of a caring home. Providing the link through pictures and memories with the relatives gives them a link to their loved ones on a more daily basis. 

Reduce workload of caregiver: 
The current workload of caregivers is high, and will only become higher as the number of PwDs is growing in the Netherlands [1]. Therefore, they often do not have time to help with entertainment as well as critical tasks. Having the robot guide the activity will leave them with time and mental space to do other critical tasks.
