32 +I worked with Shambhavi to understand and design the Proof of Concept to evaluate our design patterns. We designed the conversation flow and basic prototype of what our code would be like and do. We solidified on the main functionalities that we would need the robot to carry out such as displaying images on the tabled, showing emotions, showing gestures and playing music. For this we used the sdk [1] suggested by the TA. We had an initial visit with Pepper to implement this skeleton code to ensure all functionalities would be catered for. We soon realized that using the sdk as is would not be sufficient and we would need to extend the code.

36 +This week we worked on implementing conversation flows and ensuring smooth implementation of the Wizard Of Oz. We forked the original SDK and extended the code to add additional features necessary for our use case[2]. We added features to display images and music dynamically during run from the interface. Additionally we added blocks to the interface to run joint commands such as greet+happy emotion+hand gesture necessary to implement our conversation flow. The final implementation can be found at [2].

36 36  This week we performed the evaluation of PaintPal. We had a total of 18 participants. We carried out the experiment with two participants in one session due to time restraints. While we ensured that the control and test case order was shuffled between the participants, there were a lot of transfer effects happening due to simultaneous sessions. However, it was interesting to see that participants wanted more time to paint and found the background music relaxing. Another interesting thing observed was that participants after their painting session loved sharing their works and experiences with each other. Hence, our robot Paint Pal may be great in a group setting as well where it would successful in encouraging more social interactions among the PwD. Post the evaluation session, I performed a quick clean up of the data and passed it on to the group who would generate results and interpretations.
