Eustatius de Boer has been caring for his father, Gerard de Boer, for the past three years since he was diagnosed with Parkinson's with memory loss. Gerard's condition has been worsening, and he is now struggling to remember his relatives and important details from their conversations. Eustatius has noticed that Gerard's inability to remember their family had caused distress to everyone around him, including their children and grandchildren.

Eustatius knows that his father has recently picked up playing the guitar so one day, he had planned a  surprise family gathering to listen to his father playing the guitar. He visited Gerard at his care home along with his daughter, hoping that his father would be able to remember them. As the family members arrived, Gerard greeted them with a blank expression, unable to recognize any of them. Everyone felt sad, and the atmosphere became sombre.

Eustatius decided to call Gerard's caretaker, Patricia de Uil to analyze the situation and come up with a solution that might jog his memory. During the conversation, Patricia asked Gerard if he remembers the details of his upcoming medical check-up, which was scheduled for the next day. Gerard tried very hard to remember but didn't seem to understand or remember anything, which made him feel angry at himself. He started hitting himself on the head out of frustration, which scared Eustatius' daughter who ran out of the room crying and afraid.

Eustatius and Patricia felt helpless and frustrated, as they couldn't make Gerard remember anything. They wanted to find a way to help him remember his loved ones and details about important day-to-day events in his life.
