Clara Stiller 8.1 1 **Possible environments in which a PwD lives:**
Clara Stiller 6.2 2
Clara Stiller 17.1 3 * **Environment 1: Nursing home**
4 In a nursing home where there are 100 other people who have a physical or mental disability and each of them has their own room. Care takers help the PwD at regular task (e.g. getting dressed in the morning) but can also be called for emergencies at any time. Due to the huge amount of people, care takers have a big workload to cope with, especially if many patients need help at the same time. It's impossible to take care of each individual patient at all time.
5 Everyone living in the carehome have a daily routine, which includes getting up, breakfast, lunch, coffee time and dinner at certain times. Also, it is possible to participate in different social activities, like singing, solving puzzles or yoga lessons.

Clara Stiller 17.1 7 * **Environment 2: Daycare Center**
8 In a daycare center where the PwD lives with 50 other people. He/She is dropped off every day at 8:00h and picked up at 18:00h. The rest of the time the PwD is surrounded by family members that live in the same house. Normally, this environment is suitable for PwD at the early stages of dementia. They are able to do most tasks on their own, but for safety reasons, the family drops them off at a daycare center.

Clara Stiller 17.1 10 * **Environment 3: Living at home**
11 The PwD lives at home with his/her family. The family consists e.g. of their child and spouse along with the two grandchildren. All day long, an adult must be at home to take care of the PwD and prevent him/her from going out unsupervised. This is challenging for the whole family (concerning time and money) but can be great for the PwD, since he/she is around with his family and can play with its grandchildren. Normally, the child of the PwD can't continue working (full time).

Clara Stiller 18.1 13 **Social Environment in care center**
Clara Stiller 16.1 14 The care center has different rooms like living room and puzzles room which support food, beverages and puzzle games respectively. Activities in these rooms take place at specific periods of the day.
15 PwDs are not allowed to go out of the center alone as this can be risky, therefore they need a caretaker to accompany them.

Clara Stiller 6.2 17 **Requirements for the environment**
18
19 * reachable door
20 The room or house has to have a door. The door should never be out of the robot's reach (no loss of connection to sensor, no stairways) so that the robot can always reach the door and help the patient.
21
22 * gate between safe/ unsafe environment for PwD
Clara Stiller 6.3 23 The door should separate the care home from the 'outside', where the patient is not allowed to go (alone). Best case it's the only door leading outwards.

Clara Stiller 7.1 25 **Application**
Clara Stiller 17.1 26 For our scenario, we focus on environment 1. From these requirements follows that in our case we need to cover the main entrance/ exit door of the care center. We will locate the robot inside the building, in front of the door like a Bouncer. This has the advantage that PwDs are still able to walk around in the building but are prevented from wandering outside.
Clara Stiller 6.3 27 Furthermore using the robot as door guard has the advantage that only one robot for many Patients is needed. This saves money in terms of acquisition costs and maintenance costs.
