1 +We plan to use music for different purposes:
2 2
3 -* Pepper can play music for the PwD if they ask to.
4 -This can help them release pressure, feel better, and relax. This is part of the emotional support provided by Pepper.
5 -However, music does not act as a placeholder or a replacement for other activities. If the PwD does an activity they enjoy, the relaxing and mood effects can be as strong as those implied by music. For this reason, the main focus is still to allow the person to perform activities thanks to the task breakdown. Music is just an extra feature in that case.
3 +* The PwD becomes aware of Pepper presence.
4 +* The PwD uses the music to create associations to certain tasks.
5 +* The PwD is relaxed and entertained
6 6
7 +Pepper would play music at the beginning of an interaction to psychologically prepare the patient. The music is supposed to be some calm music so as not to startle the PwD. It is an introduction or a signal that Pepper will start talking soon. Hopefully, the music can be chosen in a way that the PwD can associate certain tasks with certain actions (for instance, music 1 is meal reminder, while music 2 and 3 are for two different medicine to take).
7 7
8 -WE ARE NOT DOING THIS ANYMORE. The text can maybe be reused.
9 --> We are basically playing music at the beginning of an activity, to prepare the patient psychologically to do the activity. This could be considered as a gently reminder.
10 -* Pepper can use music to relax the person when engaging in a potentially conflictual dialog.
11 -//This needs to be based on the expertise of the healthcare professional who follows the patient.//
12 -If the person seems more open to dialog when listening to some calm or relaxing music, then Pepper can be parameterized to play the type of music selected whenever she needs to engage in some potentially conflictual dialog. This is to increase the chances of not hurting the PwD feelings.
13 -Potentially conflictual dialogs can be reminded the person that they forgot to take medicine, or that a mother forgot to cook for her child. In both cases, the person is reminded that they failed to do something important. Therefore, the dialog has to be conducted taking this important fact into account. If the healthcare professional concludes that music can help in that way for a certain patient, then it is an extra tool to use in this case.
9 +The musics are chosen by the HCP and the relatives, and are added to Pepper thanks to the interface. The expected format is simply a sound track (for instance, .wav) that Pepper can play. In our prototype, Pepper plays music directly through her own speakers. However, some Bluetooth speakers could also be used if there is a need for louder sounds (for a very small difference in the implementation of the prototype). Similarly, the sounds could be connected to hearing device of the PwD, if necessary.

11 +The sound generalization to other devices than Pepper's own speakers also applies to the voice messages Pepper says, not only to the music.

1 +Be explicit about the software and services that you will use (e.g. Spotify or ...?), and also the devices that might use (play music via Pepper or separate sound system?)
