Problem Scenarios
Sophie
Problem scenario
Sophie lives with her husband Lucas and her son Patrick. She is quite young, but still is already subject to vascular dementia, which causes her to forget too many things. For instance, she often cooks for Lucas and herself but forgets to include meal for Patrick. She also never remembers when it is time to pick up Patrick from kindergarten.
Design scenario
Lucas decided to add two reminders for Pepper. The first one is for when Sophie is cooking. Pepper engages into a conversation, then asks Sophie if she thought about including Patrick as well. The second one is twenty minutes before the end of class, reminding Sophie that she has to pick up Patrick.
Charles
Problem scenario
Charles is living alone. Despite being quite old, he still is in early stages of dementia.
He always forgets his medicine, because it is too complicated for him to keep track of everything.
He also grows some plants in pots in his small studio, and he has always enjoyed a lot doing these home gardening activities. For him, they are relaxing. However, because of dementia, he always forgets the different steps of the activity.
Design scenario
When her daughter Vanessa came once, she realized this. She immediately made a list of the different steps to do, and found some nice pictures on the internet. She sent them to Pepper, and tested it with Charles.
Vanessa also added to Charles' calender the card party on Wednesday afternoon, so that he does not forget to prepare himself to be ready when his friend comes.
Every week, Lucy also comes to Charles' studio. She spends time with him, talks to him as they used to do before. However, now she also gives to Pepper the weekly medicine plan of Charles. Thanks to this, Charles now has much less trouble taking his medicine, and both Vanessa and Lucy feel safer for him.
